Source data note. Pricing, generation yields, and savings numbers on this page are drawn from LivSmart's own 50+ balcony solar and 30+ solar hybrid AC installs across Delhi NCR between 2025 and 2026, cross-checked against BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna, Tata Power-DDL, DHBVN and PVVNL published tariffs as of April 2026. Where we don't have first-hand data, we say so.

Rooftop solar is not an option for the 3+ crore families living in Delhi NCR apartments. You don't own the roof, the RWA controls access, and the DISCOM paperwork for a shared-roof install is a multi-month battle. Balcony solar is the apartment workaround — a compact, freestanding system that installs entirely inside your balcony, needs no society permission, and cuts your DISCOM bill from the very next billing cycle.

This guide is the plain-English reference for buying balcony solar in Delhi NCR in 2026. It covers what a 1 kW system costs, how much it generates in your specific city, how each DISCOM (BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna, Tata Power-DDL, DHBVN, PVVNL) treats balcony installs, what net metering looks like, and when balcony solar is not worth it. No vendor sales pitch — if it doesn't fit your flat, we will tell you.

What balcony solar actually is

A balcony solar system is a compact 1–3 kW behind-the-meter solar installation built specifically for apartment balconies. The components are the same as any solar system — panels, inverter, mounting structure, cabling — but sized and designed to fit inside a 2 BHK or 3 BHK balcony in Dwarka, Indirapuram, DLF Phase 4 or Sector 137 Noida.

  • Panels: 2–6 Tier-1 monocrystalline panels (540–580W each), 25-year performance warranty.
  • Mounting: Anodised aluminium freestanding or parapet-fixed frame. No drilling into façade or common wall.
  • Inverter: Micro-inverter (per-panel) for shading resilience on narrow balconies, 10-year warranty.
  • Electrical: AC cable from inverter to your flat's distribution board, behind-the-meter or via net meter.
  • Install: 4–6 hours in a single visit. No scaffolding, no heavy machinery.
  • Portability: Unbolts in ~60 minutes — moves with you if you shift flats.

Installation

How balcony solar installation works

  1. Share balcony photos and your DISCOM bill

WhatsApp 3–4 photos of your balcony from inside, outside and side-on, plus your latest electricity bill. Our Delhi NCR engineer tells you within 24 hours what system size fits, what it will generate, and what it will cost.

  2. Free site design and quote

We send you a one-page design showing panel layout on your exact balcony, monthly generation estimate for your city, and an all-in price with no hidden items. No deposit until you say yes.

  3. Installation in 4–6 hours

Our team arrives at your flat, installs the frame inside your balcony, mounts panels, wires the micro-inverter, ties into your distribution board and commissions the system. No façade drilling, no scaffolding, no heavy machinery.

  4. DISCOM tie-in (optional)

If you want net metering, we file the DISCOM application with BSES/Tata-DDL/DHBVN/PVVNL and coordinate the net meter install. Most 1 kW behind-the-meter systems skip this entirely and still cut the bill.

  5. First month savings

Your next DISCOM bill arrives with 120–150 fewer units billed at your slab rate. In NCR higher slabs this is a ₹960–₹1,200 monthly drop. The system pays itself back in 3–4 years and keeps generating for 25.

Who should buy balcony solar — and who shouldn't

Buy if you…

  • Own or long-rent a Delhi NCR apartment with a south/east/west-facing balcony
  • Pay ₹3,000+/month on your DISCOM bill in summer months
  • Plan to stay at least 3 years (or want a portable system that moves with you)
  • Want 25 years of near-free power with predictable maintenance

Don't buy if you…

  • Have a pure north-facing balcony with no direct sunlight at any hour
  • Live on a ground floor fully shaded by taller towers
  • Rent short-term (under 12 months) without landlord consent
  • Pay under ₹1,500/month — payback stretches past 6 years

Balcony solar FAQ (Delhi NCR)

  • What is balcony solar and how is it different from rooftop solar?

Balcony solar is a compact 1–3 kW solar system that installs inside your own apartment balcony — not on the roof. It uses a freestanding or parapet-fixed aluminium frame, 2–6 solar panels, and a micro-inverter that plugs into your distribution board. Unlike rooftop solar it does not need society permission, scaffolding, or roof access, which is why it is the only realistic option for apartment dwellers in Delhi NCR.

  • Is balcony solar worth it in Delhi NCR?

For most apartment owners in Delhi NCR, yes. A 1 kW balcony solar system costs ₹45,000 all-in, generates 120–150 units/month in Delhi NCR sunlight, and cuts your DISCOM bill by ₹960–₹1,200 every month at current higher-slab tariffs. Payback is 3–4 years and the panels keep generating for 25+ years. The only cases where it is not worth it: a purely north-facing balcony with no sunlight, a ground-floor flat shaded by towers, or a rental where the landlord refuses installation.

  • How much balcony solar can I fit in a typical NCR 2/3 BHK balcony?

Most Delhi NCR 2 and 3 BHK balconies fit a 1 kW system (2 panels of 540W each) comfortably. Larger balconies in DLF, Jaypee Greens, Gaur City or similar low-density buildings can fit up to 2 kW (4 panels). We size the system to your actual balcony width, depth, and sunlight — not a one-size-fits-all SKU.

  • Do I need RWA or DDA approval for balcony solar?

In most cases, no. Balcony solar installs inside your own balcony, on a freestanding frame, without touching façade or common property — which means the RWA, DDA and the cooperative society have no jurisdiction. We have installed across BSES/Tata-DDL Delhi, DHBVN Gurgaon & Faridabad, and PVVNL Noida/Greater Noida/Ghaziabad with zero RWA escalations. If your society has an unusual bylaw, we will tell you after the photo review.

  • Can I get government subsidy on balcony solar?

PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is designed for rooftop systems. In practice, BSES Rajdhani and BSES Yamuna (Delhi) have processed a small number of balcony claims; DHBVN (Gurgaon/Faridabad) and PVVNL (Noida/Ghaziabad) have been far slower. We do not build subsidy into our quotes. If it lands after commissioning, it is a bonus refund to your bank account.

  • Is net metering available for a 1 kW balcony solar in Delhi NCR?

In Delhi (BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna, Tata Power-DDL) yes, net metering is available from 1 kW upwards. In Gurgaon/Faridabad (DHBVN) and Noida/Greater Noida/Ghaziabad (PVVNL), net metering is typically offered from 2 kW upwards — so smaller 1 kW systems usually run behind-the-meter (self-consumption), which still cuts the bill without the DISCOM paperwork. We recommend the right structure for your flat and your city after the free assessment.

  • Can I take my balcony solar with me when I move?

Yes. The frame unbolts in about 60 minutes, panels slide out, micro-inverter disconnects, and the whole system travels in a standard packers-and-movers load. Reinstallation at your new balcony takes another half-day. This is specifically designed for NCR tenants who move every 1–3 years and would not consider a fixed rooftop install.

  • How long will a balcony solar system last?

Panels carry a 25-year performance warranty — so even at year 25 you are guaranteed to be generating ~85% of day-1 output. The micro-inverter carries a 10-year warranty. Mounting hardware is anodised aluminium rated 20+ years. Maintenance is wiping panels once every 2–3 months. Net of replacements, you are paying ~₹45k once for 25 years of 120–150 units/month.
